Applied Acoustics down under contract
Great Yarmouth, UK-based Applied Acoustic Engineering (AAE) has recorded the 450th sale of its USBL (Ultra Short Baseline) range of acoustic positioning systems with supply of a Nexus model to Neptune Marine Services in Perth, one of Australia’s leading exponents of integrated offshore engineering solutions.
The company, which maintains additional facilities in Singapore and the UK, has hitherto been a regular user of Nexus having previously rented assemblies from AAE’s exclusive Australian distributor, Western Advance Pty, prior to it supervising supply of the new assembly.
“Given the amount of work we are now undertaking where the use of a USBL system is a requirement, it makes sense for us to invest in a permanent Nexus unit since our operators have built up a good track record with its technology generally”, says Neptune’s Operations Manager, Pat Fournier. With embedded calibration software and spread spectrum technology enabling the frequency of transmitted signals to be varied, a system can typically operate with a variety of underwater targets and beacon types including pingers, responders and positioning transponders.
