Kongsberg extends HiPaP range of positioning systems
Norway’s Kongsberg Maritime has extended its HiPaP range of widely adopted high precision acoustic positioning and navigation systems with introduction of what it calls a new third-generation model, HiPaP 502.
Smaller, lighter, more durable and accurate than earlier versions, the company says it is basically designed to support the performance and safety of survey, offshore support, subsea construction and scientific vessel operations.
Performance specifications include an improved range capability of down to 5,000m and 100% better angle accuracy of 0.06 degrees. Other main system features include a smaller and lighter transceiver unit housed in a stainless steel cabinet which is less temperature sensitive and therefore does not require additional cooling in warmer operational environments. It also uses new low power transceiver boards with better filtering and signal processing providing an extra 5-6 dB sensitivity. A complete assembly is additionally capable of relaying and receiving high-speed acoustic telemetry data.
