Coastguard calls off search for offshore worker
The search for an offshore worker who vanished from a jack-up rig in the North Sea has been called off, media reports have said.
A 50-year-old man is assumed to have fallen off the Valaris 121 jack-up, which is off the northeast coast of Scotland near Aberdeen.
The man was reported missing at about 9pm on Sunday, but police confirmed the following morning that a search involving a coastguard aeroplane and helicopter and two oil support vessels had been stood down.
“The safety of all personnel is Valaris’ top priority, and the company’s emergency response procedures were activated immediately after the incident was reported,” the rig owner said in a statement.
“Searches from the air and sea involving aircraft from HM Maritime and Coastguard Agency, as well as vessels in the area, were conducted through the night. The operation was stood down around 0700hrs today.”
