First female group harbour master for Peel

Captain Cloggie-Holden, originally from Drumchapel, Glasgow, is the first woman to hold the group harbour master role at the UK’s second-largest port operator.

New chapter

The outgoing Harbour Master, Gary Doyle, brought over 40 years of maritime experience to the role, introducing innovations like a centralised port control centre and enhancing PPE for marine people. Peel Ports also gained MOD recognition under his leadership.

Captain Cloggie-Holden’s appointment follows a ground-breaking career in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), where she became its first female commanding officer in 2021.

Her career highlights include global military deployments and receiving the Merchant Navy Medal in 2021 for championing women in maritime. She is also a founding member of the Maritime UK Women in Maritime Taskforce.

Captain Cloggie-Holden’s appointment signals a new chapter in leadership for one of the UK’s most influential ports groups, reinforcing Peel Ports’ commitment to innovation and excellence in marine navigation.

She will now lead marine navigation and operational activities across Peel Ports Group’s seven harbour authorities, which include the Port of Liverpool, Clydeport, and London Medway. Her responsibilities span vessel traffic management, harbour services, pilotage and marine safety.

Capt Cloggie Holden officially took up her new role on 1 July.
