JFD wins NATO submarine rescue contract
UK-based subsea operations and manufacturing firm JFD has won another contract with NATO for its submarine rescue system support.
JFD, a part of James Fisher and Sons, has been awarded the ‘Third In-Service Support’ (3ISS) contract to continue on a Second In-Service Support contract won in 2015 and due to finish this summer.
The NSRS Authority that awarded the contract represents participant nations UK, France and Norway, and the award ’demonstrates its confidence in JFD’s ability to provide a full and complete in-service support solution’, says JFD.
The 3ISS last for five years from summer 2023 but could be extended to nine years.
”JFD has unrivalled experience with real-life submarine rescue incidents, including locating and identifying the wreckage of KRI Nanggala, and deploying systems in support of the submarine Kursk and AS-28 Priz incidents,” says JFD. ”JFD builds upon the expertise and lessons learned from these incidents to continue to raise the standards for safety in the submarine rescue domain.”
The company has multiple support contracts with around 30 navies, and with this latest contract intends to incorporate digitisation into its solution.
