Complex marine maintenance made easy

Working alongside Altrad for ConocoPhillips in Teesside, ScaffFloat developed the custom floating access platform to navigate the tight spaces around closely packed piles common in jetties and piers.

“Floating access solutions like this allow marine contractors to work more efficiently and safely in complex environments like ports and harbours,” said Gary Jago, operations manager at ScaffFloat.

Close quarter access

The modular pontoon featured integrated propulsion for precise positioning, allowing safe and effective marine civils work even in confined, tidal environments.

One of the standout features of the platform was a pile-accommodating interface that allowed close-quarter access without risking structural integrity.

Flexible deck configurations gave teams comprehensive reach for tasks like inspection, repairs and surface treatment.

Safety remained a top priority during the project, with support vessels overseeing all operations and monitoring environmental impact.

The floating pontoon was also used with flexible access gear to maintain progress despite fluctuating tidal conditions, ensuring maximum productivity during short operational windows.
