Global shipyards unite for sustainability

The newly formed Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA) unites major shipyards from Europe, the Middle East and Asia to drive clean technology adoption and set shared environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards.

“The formation of the Global Green Shipyard Alliance reflects our shared responsibility to accelerate the maritime industry’s decarbonisation journey,” said Captain Rado Antolovic, PhD, CEO of Drydocks World.

“We are proud to collaborate with our global counterparts to advance more sustainable, efficient practices across the sector.”

Climate goals

The GGSA includes shipyards from Spain (Astilleros Group), Germany (BREDO Dry Docks GmbH) and IMC Shipyard Services Group operating in Singapore, China and Thailand.

Together, the shipyards said they will work together as key global maritime hubs in order to help improve the industry’s environmental footprint.

The GGSA will focus on practical, scalable solutions such as hybrid propulsion systems, energy-efficient retrofitting, digital optimisation and emissions compliance.

This initiative marks Drydocks World’s third major collaboration under the DP World umbrella.

It follows the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA), which aims to make battery-electric container handling equipment affordable and scalable and the First Movers Coalition, where members aggregate their purchasing power to accelerate investments in zero-emission solutions.
