Scottish port boost for offshore wind
Port owner Haventus has secured a further £100 million to fund the redevelopment of Ardersier Port in Scotland, boosting the UK’s offshore wind capability.
The joint credit facility from the Scottish National Investment Bank and UK Infrastructure Bank follows an initial £300 million cash injection from energy investment firm Quantum Capital Group in 2023.
Consultancy firm, Turner & Townsend will continue to work as strategic project and commercial management advisor to Haventus as the project moves into the construction delivery phase.
“The renewable energy sector is an area of huge growth and opportunity for the UK and the regeneration of the port will play a vital role in enabling Scotland to meet its net-zero aspirations,” said Turner & Townsend infrastructure director, Scotland, Steven Jackson.
“This appointment strengthens our long-standing experience in delivering Scottish infrastructure and we are excited to be involved in regenerating the port to its former glory.”
Located around 16 km east of Inverness, Ardersier is the UK’s largest brownfield port. Its redevelopment will boost offshore wind installation in the North Sea, including the capability for large scale manufacturing and assembly, and logistics, storage and marshalling of offshore wind components.
The port’s regeneration will also benefit the surrounding economy by using local supply chains where possible, creating jobs and helping the UK achieve net zero.
Turner & Townsend has been working with Haventus from the early stages of the project, delivering project and commercial management and project controls services. The global consultancy will undertake the role of commercial and project management strategic advisor to Haventus as well as provide overall project assurance and coordination of the phase 1 programmes.
