All-Energy – all ready to welcome you

From its earliest days All-Energy has strongly featured marine renewables and this year – which marks the 16th show – will be no exception. Over 24 hours of conference time is devoted to offshore wind and wave and tidal sessions; with an additional 12 hours in the Wave and Tidal Quick Fire Seminar Theatre on the exhibition show floor.

There’s a strong exhibitor base for these forms of generation as well, and exhibitors are easily located thanks to fifteen sector-specific trails with separate pathways for offshore wind, offshore O&M, and wave and tidal.

Exhibits of relevance to readers of Maritime Journal range from ACE Winches’ range of deck solutions that have been installed for offshore wind projects in UK and European waters to Aggreko’s proven technologies and services for pre-grid commissioning; from ANT Telecom’s lone worker alarm solutions that work on all the latest technology to DeckSafe Solutions’ 6m long GRP platform with various anti slip flooring, walkway, handrails and treads.

Then too there are ultrasonic wind speed and direction weather stations and software being exhibited by Gill Instruments, the H2020 Maribe Project that aims to unlock the potential of multi-use of space in the offshore economy, and Herbosch Kiere’s ‘Atlantis’ multi-purpose pontoon vessel.

PACKED CONFERENCE PROGRAMME
Conference sessions on offshore wind (in the ‘silent’ theatre sponsored by Shepherd and Wedderburn) are devoted to the scene setting ‘Current state of play – and looking forward’ with a keynote address by Benj Sykes of DONG Energy and a panel of offshore wind luminaries including Jonathan Cole of ScottishPower Renewables, Huub den Rooijen of The Crown Estate, Matthew Knight of Siemens and Andrew Jamieson of the ORE Catapult with expert input from Julian Leslie of National Grid. There are also ‘quick fire’ sessions on a range of offshore wind-related topics including vessels and electrical innovations.

The wave and tidal programme is just as comprehensive, covering ‘Status 2016’ with a keynote address by Tim Cornelius, CEO of Atlantis Resources; ‘Consenting, finance, legal and environmental’ with a keynote address by Ronnie Quinn of The Crown Estate; ‘A snapshot of EU and global progress’; ‘Experience in tidal array development’; and outlooks on both economics and technology. There are two sessions on UK marine innovation organised by The Carbon Trust and Scottish Enterprise. And full day programmes in the Quick Fire theatre (repeated on Day 2). Additionally streams such as the double session ‘Innovate UK and DECC innovation showcase’ will also undoubtedly feature marine renewables.

All-Energy, being held for the 16th year, organised by Reed Exhibitions, moved from Aberdeen to Glasgow in 2015 where it attracted 8,250 participants from 50 countries over two days; and featured 450+/- exhibiting companies and over 450 speakers in the conference and quick-fire seminar theatres. Another traditional attraction is the Giant Networking Evening (4 May) held at the Glasgow Science Centre just a few minutes’ walk from SECC, which features the ‘Powering the Future’ interactive exhibition for guests to enjoy to the full.

LUMINARIES TO THE FORE
The opening plenary session chaired by Nina Skorupska CBE, Chief Executive of the Renewable Energy Association includes ScottishPower’s Keith Anderson; Professor Sir Jim McDonald of Strathclyde University and co-chair of the Scottish Energy Advisory Board; and Julian Leslie of National Grid. In line with Scottish Government aims the conference will be looking at both energy supply and end use; and, at local energy strategy; and includes sessions devoted to heat, transport and community energy in all its guises.

At All-Energy buyers can track down suppliers; suppliers can, through the medium of 1-2-1 ‘meet the buyers’ share fair meetings find out how to get on to the ‘tender list’ for a variety of projects. There’s a buzz and excitement at the show, with packed aisles and conference halls; and most importantly, business is done.

A further 40 organisations including government departments, professional bodies and trade associations act as supporters of the two-day annual event.
