Dubai deal for expanding Vikoma
Vikoma International Ltd has just won a half million pound contract to equip two 63m multi-role vessels for Dubai Ship Building which are ultimately bound for the United Arab Emirates Coastguard.
Vikoma will supply HI Sprint boom systems, Cascade weir skimmer systems, and a number of powerpacks to operate a range of spill response equipment.
A brand new skimming system has been developed to meet the Coastguard’s requirements. The new 90 cu/m per hour system enables fast and effective recovery, the interchangeable brush cassettes and toothed ‘star’ disc cassettes can recover a wide range of oils. The £500,000 order is a great start to the new financial year and adds to a record order book going into 2010/2011.
Vikoma is also working on a contract worth more than £2m to supply hydraulic powerpacks to KBR, as part of a UK Ministry of Defence contract.
The powerpacks have been designed and developed specifically for the end user, to provide power for pumping operations in challenging environments across the world. Three different designs are being manufactured to suit varying environments and operational requirements.
Mike King, managing director of Vikoma International Ltd said, ‘This is a significant order for Vikoma and opens up a new market for us. Achieving the MOD’s stringent selection criteria is a testament to
the people we have working here.’
Vikoma is well known for the design and manufacture of equipment for oil spill response and pollution control. Powerpacks have always been a key element of oil spill response systems. The new design enables the units to drive a wide range of different equipment in extreme environments.
Vikoma moves into brand new purpose built premises on the Isle of Wight this month which will provide extra manufacturing space, specialist Research and Development and testing facilities, and purpose built offices and training rooms.
