Bespoke davits for extreme weather
The Norwegian-based custom davit manufacturer Vestdavit has recently won substantial orders from the Royal Navy for the fast launching of interceptor tenders from the latest class of patrol vessel.
Vestdavit specialises in making bespoke davit systems that are ruggedly built and powered by dependable hydraulics. “We design, supply and support tailor-made solutions for launching and recovering boats in difficult conditions at sea,” explained Operations Director (UK) Andy James. “Our slogan is ‘Vestdavit keeps your crews working when others have to stop.’”
Sample graphics of the various davit systems that are made from a combination of proven and type-approved parts, will be available for inspection, with expertise available to discuss particular requirements. The davits are fabricated to a customer’s exact requirements and built in a brand new facility in Poland by the Norwegian-owned company Tritec Steel. However, systems can also be assembled in other materials, including stainless steel and aluminium.
“We have over 1,900 Vestdavit systems in use around the world, from fishing boats, ferries and cruise ships to Nimitz-class aircraft carriers,” James said. “The shift now is more towards coastguard and naval contracts, and we are also seeing a lot more retrofit work.”
