Biocide-free fouling release film
Renolit Dolphin S is a fluoro-polymer fouling release film that is being heralded as an ‘environmentally-friendly product which is going to change the fouling release industry for the better.’
The film is professionally applied to a prepared surface, and due to its smooth and slippery surface, is claimed to make it ‘almost impossible’ for sealife to attach itself to. The film is also biocide free, making it ideal for use in highly sensitive areas where conventional antifouling systems may be banned.
Distributed and applied by Grapefruit Coatings, Renolit Dolphin S can be used on any mobile or static marine structure, so is currently being applied to the hulls of commercial craft and offshore power generation installations.
Grapefruit Coatings, who will have samples of the material on display at Seawork, say that it offers protection for up to 5 years. After that, the film is simply peeled away and replaced.
“Recently there has been growing concern about the cumulative effects of biocides in anti-fouling paints leeching into the areas around harbours and marinas,” said Marketing Manager Gemma Scarth. “Dolphin S is a credible alternative, with the added advantages that it is easy to maintain and helps reduce fuel consumption by providing a smoother hull.”
Samples and more information can be found at the Grapefruit Coatings stand, PG37, at Seawork International 2018.
