Burgess Marine signs with Mainprize Offshore
Burgess Marine and Mainprize Offshore signed an agreement to build two 25m windfarm support vessels at Seawork International 2014, which essentially acted as a catalyst for today’s event.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to be working with Bob and Sharon Mainprize. Their approach is revolutionary in this industry and we are proud to be party to it. For many years, we’ve watched yards make small fortunes, then fail, or operators make big investments which have then been seized or withheld by administrators,” said Nick Warren, managing director, Burgess Marine.
“We wanted to offer a ‘piece of mind alternative’ to the industry. Something different. Something sensible. By working closely with Bob and Sharon Mainprize, we’ve developed a ‘cost plus’ way of working, thus ensuring a very low risk for the operator and a low, but sustainable, margin for us, as the builder,” he added.
“Bob Mainprize is a visionary and the product is simply superb – he’s an extremely knowledgeable guy and a very sensible businessman. This low-risk, low margin model has got to be the way to go in an industry so inherently full of risk. The team at Close Brothers have been second-to-none and very easy to work with. Between us we’ve a great product and we look forward to many years of success,” Mr Warren concluded.
Sharon Mainprize, Mainprize Offshore, commented, “We are really looking forward to the build and working alongside Burgess Marine in the future.”
