Recent tests by QinetiQ of an advanced, new generation prototype of the Echomax Active-X RTE show excellent performance through ±10 and 20 degrees of heel and in the vertical position, fully meeting the performance requirement of the new ISO8729-2 at X-band 9.4GHz used by pleasure and commercial vessels alike.

The Active-X achieved 111.36M2 in the vertical position, 78.96M2 at ten degrees of heel, and 20.80M2 at 20 degrees of heel. Only 7.5M2 is needed to meet the requirements of ISO 8729-2 X band at ten degrees for motor vessels and 20 degrees for sailing vessels, figures which the Active-X surpasses easily.

Echomax will also be proudly trumpeting at Seawork the fact that its EM305PE radar reflectors have been chosen as markers for the new Thanet Wind Farm pylons currently being installed off the UK’s Kent Coast.

Thanet Offshore Wind Farm, 12km east of North Foreland, was acquired in November 2008 by Stockholm based Vattenfall AB which also owns and operates the nearby Kentish Flats Offshore Wind Farm. 100 Vestas V90 turbines generating a total of 300MW, enough to supply 240,000 homes, will be operating at the Thanet site once completed in 2010, at which time it will become the largest operational offshore wind farm in the world.

Following a year of sea trials the US Navy SubPac Division Hawaii have chosen the EM305 for enhanced visibility upon surfacing for their fleet of nuclear submarines. Echomax designed a new polyethylene case with peak performance of 62.9m² at an average of +1-3° at 10m² suitable for free suspension. Following tests and interests from the French Navy, recent tests have been carried out by QinetiQ for response to the NATO frequencies 8 – 18 Ghz (I and J band).
