Meercat delivers second Saudi vessel

British boatbuilder Meercat Workboats has just delivered its second vessel for Saudi Arabia with Conwy and Belfast Harbour vessel orders also confirmed.

Meercat’s latest build is a 15m x 6m mono hulled daughter craft

Meercat Workboats of Portsmouth has just delivered its twentieth new build workboat. A departure from their normal road transportable designs, this is a 15m x 6m mono hulled “daughter craft”.

The vessel, Zamil MC-1 is designed to be carried on the deck of a pipe servicing ship and will operate in Saudi Arabian waters servicing the shallow water sections of sub-sea pipelines. Much of the pipelines in this area are reaching an age where maintenance is becoming a problem.

The contract has presented no small challenge to the boatbuilder, not least as the order was not placed until mid-December 2013, for delivery on site in Saudi Arabia mid-April 2014. But the company’s workforce pulled out all the stops and produced the vessel in double quick time.

Hot on the heels of Zamil’s vessel have come orders for port service vessels for both Conwy and Belfast Harbour Authorities.
