Mike Lights Up seawork2003 With Glo-Toob

One of the many new exhibitors at seawork this year is Mikes Waterfront Warehouse , based in Londons Chiswick area.

Shore pull at Pulau Sakra (Singapore).

Mike is the UK distributor for Glo-Toob , a virtually indestructible, high intensity, multi-purpose waterproof light source which is already in service with the US Navy’s Seals and Military Police as well as South Africa’s life boat service. It is currently being trialled by British Special Forces, Police and Fire Brigades.

Designed to replace chemical light sticks, Glo-Toob is made of an aluminium core surrounded by a robust clear epoxy resin. It has three intense LEDs in the base that illuminate the entire tube and is waterproof to any depth. Available in red, yellow, blue, green, white and infra-red, a twist switch allows it to be turned off and on as needed.

It can bed dropped, thrown or driven over without damage and, weighing only 36 grams, can be taken almost anywhere.

The aluminium centre of the 72 mm by 19 mm Glo-Toob tapers off at the bottom and most of the light comes from this area.

The LEDs are directed upwards towards this section, with the light reflecting off and to the sides. This allows for a true 360º radiation pattern along the horizontal axis while also giving good visibility when viewed from above or below.

Glo-Toobs are powered by a small, inexpensive 12 volt battery and shine for approximately 30 to 80 hours depending on usage. Because the LEDs are driven at less than 20 milliamps, they have a burn time of approximately 100,000 hours.

There are two versions, the original switch on or off model and the ‘multi-mode’, which has seven different modes from flash and strobe to SOS and pulse.
