Mobile skills shop to feature at Seawork 2014
Seawork will welcome a new exhibitor in 2014 as The Marine Skills Centre sets up shop for the first time.
Part of the UK’s City College Southampton, The Marine Skills Centre is working to upskill the marine industry and create a new generation of workers to ensure the sector’s future. Based on the waterside in the city, its facilities include a brand new composites laboratory and marine electrical facility.
The Marine Skills Centre will exhibit at Seawork for the first time in 2014, setting up a ‘mobile skills shop’ where marine employers can get advice on training for their staff and be matched with apprentices who are ready to start straight away.
It’s appearance at Seawork this year comes in the same academic year that it welcomed its biggest ever intake of marine apprentices.
With a diverse portfolio of employers including Golden Arrow, Griffon Hoverworks, Oyster and Discovery Yachts and Hamble Yacht Services, the College is continuing to commit to meeting the growing needs of the local, national and global marine industries for quality apprentices.
