New WMA app at Seawork

Education, training, consultancy and research provider, Warsash Maritime Academy (WMA), part of Southampton Solent University, will be at Seawork 2014 with its new learning app.

Keep up-to-date with the WMA’s new app

Dedicated to supporting the training of maritime personnel, the new app is free to download from the Apple iTunes Store and enables seafarers access to updated course materials, career progression charts, WMA’s maritime course offering, news and wide range of FAQs via an iPad.

“With its modern look and feel and ease of use anyone looking to pursue a career in the maritime industry will benefit from the information available from the app,” said Andrew Hair, director, WMA.

“The ability for Warsash students to receive updated material constantly is invaluable and means they can access their course material easily whilst they are on board and working globally,” he added.

The Academy says Seawork provides it with a vital link to seafarers and companies working within the workboat and offshore environment, as its specialist commercial marine training covers:

• CoC for Master works boats less than 500gt (and up to 3000gt)
• Deck, marine engineer and electro-technical officer training up to Master and Chief Engineer level (Unlimited)
• STCW courses in fire fighting and sea survival
• OPITO accredited offshore oil and gas safety courses
• HELM management and operational levels
• ECDIS navigation training
• GMDSS radio certificates
• STCW, safety and security management courses
• Offshore windfarm courses approved by RenewableUK.

The WMA had a record turn out for its ‘Careers at sea’ open day held in January, welcoming visitors from over 40 different counties, and will be running another on 27 June. It is a great opportunity for any prospective or professional seafarer to talk directly to shipping companies.
