Revision of Brown Code at Seawork
In the afternoon of opening day at Seawork on Tuesday 25 June, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) and the National Workboat Association will speak about the Revision of the Brown Code during the CPD certified conference.
After ten years of stalled progress on enabling legislation for a Harmonised Code (SCV Code) – and continued difficulties arising from policies aimed at reducing the regulatory burdens – the needs of the industry are finally getting the opportunity to be re-appraised.
The re-evaluation takes into account the suitability of MGN 280 to equip vessels for a widening marketplace and the increasing importance of the offshore renewables sector.
David W Ralph (Principal Surveyor Codes Vessel, MCA), Mark Ranson (Secretary National Workboat Association) and Capt Paul Wilkins (Principal Surveyor Offshore & Cargo Vessels, MCA) will speak about the changing nature of the market which has informed this Revision.
This includes the needs of industry, the changes to the Code and cultural changes, which are inherent in the move from conventional work boat operations to renewable sector service vessels, taking into account operations deeper offshore.
