Safehaven chooses Dometic
Swedens Dometic Marine is to provide air conditioning systems for several new builds for Safehaven Marine, including a unit for the first catamaran in a four-boat contract with the Polish Navy.
Dometic equipment has also been installed on a patrol vessel for India and a pilot vessel for the Port of Sohar.
Equipped with Dometic’s cutting-edge self-contained systems, the vessels will often be operating in very high temperatures and have been specified to provide comfortable living conditions for crew on extended periods at sea.

After winning an international tender, Safehaven has just launched the first vessel of a prestigious four-boat contract to build Wildcat 40-series catamarans for the Polish Navy.
The vessels will be supplied throughout 2014, with the first signifying a milestone as it is the 100th vessel to be built by Ireland-based Safehaven Marine since being founded 17 years ago and is also the first that has been built as a military vessel for the navy.
Dometic installed one of its Vector Compact self-contained marine air conditioners on the first catamaran, offering 27,000 BTU of cooling and heating. The Dometic kit, which supplies the helm and main deck area, has now been ordered for the second vessel which is currently in production.
The Wildcat 40 is based on Safehaven’s proven 12m ‘high bow buoyancy’ symmetrical hull catamaran design. The Polish Navy vessels will be equipped for hydrographic survey duties in the Baltic Sea, with the internal arrangement providing live-aboard facilities for a crew of four to operate the vessel on extended surveys of up to four days in duration in comfortable, air conditioned and heated accommodation.
Safehaven Marine has also recently launched one of its Interceptor 42 patrol vessels for Adani Hazira Port in India. Dometic equipment was again chosen for the vessel which is specifically engineered for hot climate operations.
A 6kW generator provides AC power throughout and also powers a Dometic 27,000 BTU air conditioning system. The single VCD27K unit was fitted into the helm seating and supplies the main deck from one outlet grill, also migrating air to the forward cabin.
The high temperatures were a consideration in both the accommodation areas and the engine room, which is fitted with large ventilation inlets and outlets with forced ventilation provided by a 500mm axial fan. Designed for a crew capacity of 12 to live in a comfortable environment, the vessel features a large internal volume for crew accommodation and a spacious aft cockpit area.
Also equipped for hot conditions, Safehaven recently delivered an Interceptor 38 pilot boat to Svitzer for operation at the Port of Sohar in Oman. It was fitted with a Dometic 16,000 BTU air-conditioning unit powered by a 3kW inverter to ensure that pilots and crew are provided with a comfortable working environment.
Dometic’s Vector Compact series of self-contained marine air conditioners offers 18K and 27K BTU/hr of cooling and heating and use environmentally safe R-410A refrigerant.
