Scania expands IMO Tier III engine range
Seawork exhibitor Scania has expanded its engine portfolio with seven new IMO Tier III-compliant engines.
Scania Power Solutions has increased its offering for pilot and patrol boats, crew transfer and supply vessels and ferries with seven IMO Tier III-compliant marine engines.
The requirements state that all new-build vessels sailing in an ECA (Emission Control Area) that are 500gt and above, with a length of at least 24 metres and an engine output of 130 kW or more, must comply with various nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions limits.
The ECAs have applied to North America and the US Caribbean since 2016 and the Baltic and North Sea since 2021.
The Sweden-based firm says its new D113 products are ready this year and show a commitment to reduce NOx emissions.
“We are strengthening our offering of low NOx marine propulsion power systems to give our customers a wider selection of ratings as well as higher output. From an installation perspective the engines are identical to our existing IMO Tier III products so our customers will recognise both engine and exhaust after-treatment systems,” said Henrik Nilsson, director Product Management.
The seven engines – 257kW, 280kW, 284kW, 331kW, 368kW, 405kW and 441kW – can also be equipped with diesel particulate filters, Oleg Nikitin, product manager, Marine Power Solutions, told Maritime Journal.
