Seawork 2013 – 50 years of the RIB

Seawork, the International commercial marine conference and exhibition, organised by Mercator Media Ltd, will be back for its 16th year at the ABP Port of Southampton, UK from 25 to 27 June 2013.

A 9.4m Zodiac Hurricane MACH II will be on the pontoons at Seawork 2013

And this year it will mark the 50th anniversary of the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB), which is already an important part of the exhibition – with RIBs out on the pontoons and over 35 companies taking part in the RIBWork Trail.

In a graphic representation of past and present this year, Zodiac MilPro will be displaying a 4m Avon Searider from the early ‘70s, which still runs well with the original 50hp Mercury outboard, and a more recent 9.4m Zodiac Hurricane MACH II RIB on berth 17.

This year’s Seawork RIB @ 50 special feature will also bring an extra dimension to this year’s event, with stands and vessels paying homage to the past and looking to future developments. Special guest will be RIB expert and MJ contributor Dag Pike, who was heavily involved in the very early design and development of the RIB concept.

Dag will also be launching his new book at the exhibition, The Complete RIB Manual. The book features the latest RIB technology but also traces the fascinating history of the RIB. There will be a chance to meet the author and obtain an autographed copy.

He will also chair a forum session related to RIB Health and Safety during the conference. Exhibitors wishing to join the panel of speakers should contact Fay Reeve by email: freeve@seawork.com
