‘MV Helen Mary’
New build ‘MV Helen Mary’ was delivered to Inverlussa Marine Services during May 2015. Built at Macduff Shipyards in Scotland, this 28 metre, triple screw, shallow draft, multi-role support vessel has been designed with a focus on the offshore renewable energy sector and other general support duties, including survey support, supply, dive support, standby, mattress laying, general towage, non-standard cargo, small anchor handling.
The vessel, which is currently available for charter, is built to BV Classification I X Hull MACH Special Service Tug/Workboat, MCA Category 0, unlimited navigation. Each of the triple shaft lines comprises a 600hp Caterpillar C18 driving a 4 blade propeller inside a 1450mm nozzle with high lift rudders. There is also a 950mm 350hp bow thruster.
A high level of redundancy is provided within the ship’s main systems, from an extra main engine, to a 100% redundancy in the hydraulic system and four generators being fitted, many other systems in the ship also have this level of redundancy.
The vessel’s deck winches, supplied by North Sea Winches, comprise of 2 x anchor windlass, 4 x four point mooring winches with a capacity of 600m with auto spooling which can be local or bridge controlled for deployment of 1000kg delta anchors. The 50 ton main winch has a capacity on both drums of 650m of 32mm wire and provides 25 tons bollard pull. Positioned on the portside of the vessel’s large main deck is an HS Marine AKC145 radio controlled deck crane giving a maximum capacity of 4.6tons @ 17m outreach. A section of the starboard bulwark is removable which aids deployment of equipment over the side, there is also a stern roller.
With dimensions of 15.5 x 10 metres, an area of 150m2 and capacity of 130 tons, the cargo deck can accommodate 6 x 20 foot containers with deck fittings and reefer sockets available. Additional containers may be carried double stacked, subject to total weight. Below the main deck is a dry cargo hold for pallet storage.
There is comfortable air-conditioned living space for up to 14 persons, consisting of 2 x 3 berth cabins, 3 x 2 berth cabins 2 x 1 berth cabins. There are 3 showers/toilets, changing/drying area, laundry facility and open plan galley and mess room with adjoining lounge. Additional accommodation can be provided in temporary extra modular accommodation units.
MV Helen Mary is the second vessel of this very versatile, multi-purpose design to be built for Inverlussa by Macduff Shipyards. MV Helen Burnie was delivered in 2012 and was the first workboat of this type for Inverlussa. Both vessels have been designed and built to a very high standard.
