Pipe corrosion protection
Corroserve was contracted by Cammell Laird to corrosion protect the internal surfaces of seawater pipe spools and slip on flanges on recently completed polar research vessel ‘RRS Sir David Attenborough’.
Seawater is piped throughout the vessel for cooling, cleaning, ballasting, fire-fighting and by distillation as a source of fresh water for boiler feed water.
Completed at its Leeds factory, Corroserve first abrasive blast cleaned all the internal surfaces in accordance with ISO8501- 1 Sa2½, to provide the required surface profile. This was followed by the application of multiple coats of Corroglass 600 system – spray applied using the Agmec internal pipe spraying equipment to achieve a DFT of 1250μm.
Corroglass 600 Series is a high-performance glass flake coating system which is claimed to provide excellent protection against corrosion in immersed and non-immersed locations. It is resistant to seawater, acids, solvents and demineralised water.
Corroserve is a member of the Corrosioneering Group which also includes specialist paints and coatings manufacturer – Corrocoat and Research and Development Division –Corrolabs.
