Refitted Nelson Returns to Service
Following an extensive refit, survey vessel operators Talisman Offshore Services have returned Semper Vigilo 2of instrument space.
to service. The aft cabin and wheelhouse now provide a total of 3.5m A 10kVA silenced generator is fitted, supplying two separate and protected mains circuits and in addition, 12, 24 and 110V supplies and earth connections are available throughout the workspaces.
An ‘A’ frame and capstan mounted on the stern provide facilities for grab sampling, gravity coring, and instrument deployment or recovery.
Outriggers are fitted to either side of the A frame enabling towed instruments/hydrophones to be positioned out of the wash.
A hull mounted plate allows overside transducer mounting and a swathe sonar mounting is fitted to the bow.
The 12.75m vessel is powered by twin V8 Caterpillar engines and the Nelson hull, with its long straight keel, provides excellent directional stability and a draft of only 1.25m which allows operation close to shore.
Semper Vigilo is classed MCA Category 2 Workboat and, being road transportable, can be mobilised quickly throughout the UK and abroad. Since being refitted, the vessel has undertaken a series of gas line surveys for Transco/EAL.
