NextGeo boosts its marine construction and underwater survey offering
Next Geosolutions Europe S.p.A., a marine geosciences and offshore construction support service company with a focus on renewable energy, has aquired 100% of Subonica S.r.l., an underwater surveying and inspection company.
This strategic move aims to bolster NextGeo’s capabilities in marine construction and the renewable energy sectors.
“This M&A transaction aligns with our growth strategy and enhances our geophysical and environmental survey services. Subonica’s technological assets will strengthen our nearshore activities, allowing us to diversify our business and consolidate our position as industry leaders,” said Giovanni Ranieri, CEO of NextGeo.
Asset expansion
Subonica, founded in 2002, specialises in underwater surveys and inspections using Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). It operates primarily in offshore energy sectors, submarine power cables, scientific research, environmental monitoring and underwater archaeology.
With a turnover of approximately €0.5 million in 2023, Subonica has become a prominent Italian company in underwater robotics, performing inspections and surveys for environmental protection and marine construction.
The acquisition, valued at €530,000, will integrate Subonica’s assets, including a 10.35m work boat and a fleet of ROVs, with NextGeo’s existing resources.
This includes a new coastal vessel and additional ROVs to support surveys in coastal and shallow areas where larger ROVs cannot operate.
NextGeo’s focus on renewable energy and marine construction will be further reinforced by this acquisition, which enhances its capacity to conduct comprehensive surveys for underwater structures, aiding in both installation and maintenance phases.
The company said it’s committed to expanding its technological capabilities and service offerings in the marine and renewable energy sectors.
