Rovco completes UXO project in Baltic Sea

Using Rovco’s 3D modelling and other tech, Rovco confirmed and removed UXOs, disposing of them and re-inspecting cleared zones to clear any remaining ‘anomalies’.

MV Patriot is a newly chartered multi-purpose vessel, equipped with an active heave crane, DP Class 2 station keeping and work-class ROVs.

The project was being carried out for Iberdrola, the Spanish energy firm, which is planning to install the Windanker offshore wind farm near Rügen Island in the German economic zone of the Baltic Sea.

It is the first time that Rovco has been contracted for this kind of work in Germany.

Windanker is by today’s standards a small offshore wind farm, with an installed capacity of 315MW and a cost of more than €1 billion, which has risen from an earlier announced figure of €800 million.

It is Iberdrola’s third wind farm in the Baltic Sea, and the company will deploy some of the largest turbines on the market today at 15MW each, making a total of 21 at the site.

Van Oord is contracted to transport and install the foundations and interconnecting cables using 8,000t heavy-lift vessel Svanen.

The wind farm is scheduled to begin generating electricity in the latter half of 2026.
