Saab achieves electric subsea ROV testing milestone

Saab UK’s fully-electric work-class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), the Seaeye SR20 eWROV, has successfully completed inshore subsea trials.

These trials, held in October, tested the vehicle’s capabilities and mark a major milestone in advancing marine security technology through efficient, eco-friendly ROVs.

Environmentally conscious

During the sea trials, the Seaeye SR20 demonstrated particular precision in manoevrability and dexterity through both joystick and automated controls during this testing phase.

Designed with over-the-horizon control and resident deployment in mind, the SR20 is an environmentally-conscious solution to subsea challenges, using limited oil to minimise its environmental footprint.

The ROV’s advanced electric manipulators and thrust capabilities allow it to excel in tasks typically reserved for hydraulic systems, offering a high level of efficiency and performance.

Ocean Infinity, a leader in innovative marine technology, is the launch customer for the SR20. The company will be deploying it as part of an advanced, uncrewed fleet.

The SR20’s upcoming sea trials, scheduled for spring 2025, will further validate its potential to enhance marine security operations and helping to set new standards in subsea technology.
