Teledyne’s Swedish deal for subsea mine counter measures
Teledyne Marine has signed a multi-year Framework Agreement with the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) to deliver and support GAVIA Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) for Mine Counter Measures (MCM) and seabed mapping.
The agreement, awarded through an international tender, will provide Sweden with cutting-edge subsea technology to enhance its naval operations.
“We are honoured to count Sweden as a new user of the GAVIA AUV which is already in service for various applications with nine NATO navies,” said Valentin Hanns, senior director of sales – marine vehicles, EMEA, Teledyne Marine.
Rapid detection
The GAVIA AUV, selected for its high technical merit, will play a crucial role in Sweden’s mine counter measures strategy.
Equipped with an EdgeTech 2205 side scan sonar and a Teledyne Flir Blackfly-S camera, these modular AUVs will allow for rapid detection and identification of underwater threats.
The Swedish Navy will also have the flexibility to integrate additional payloads such as synthetic aperture sonar, magnetometers and multibeam echosounders as mission needs evolve.
This long-term agreement includes provisions for extensions, ensuring Sweden’s continued access to advanced subsea capabilities. In-country support and maintenance will be handled by Teledyne Flir AB in Sweden, reinforcing operational readiness.
“The Portable MCM AUV will be operated from various platforms to allow rapid mapping of the seabed and detection of various objects of interest.” said Johan Björck, strategic buyer at FMV.
