Eddy gets smaller for Iskes
EDDY Tug has won an order from Iskes Towage & Salvage to design and build a second, smaller but more powerful version of the Hybrid EDDY tug (efficient double-ended dynamic tug).
Eddy 1, an EDDY 30-65 design has been a regular sight around mainland Europe since its delivery in 2014 and currently in Curaҫao. Attention is now focussing on the latest design which sees a smaller more compact 24m version but with a higher bollard pull of 70t, this order may therefore be seen as a significant breakthrough for the EDDY Tug family.
The new EDDY 24-70 has the same characteristic in-line thruster arrangement and will again be built by Holland Shipyard under a contract worth more than €6m. The diesel-electric machinery installation includes Mitsubishi S16R main engines and Baumuller permanent magnet drives driving Veth VZ 1800 thrusters and delivering 2,300kW.
The tug is due for delivery in May 2016 for operation in the Dutch port of Ijmuiden.
