Fassmer deliver ‘Bugsier 7’
The Fassmer GmbH & Co.KG shipyard, at Berne/Motzen on the river Weser, has added the construction of tugs to their extensive portfolio, much to the delight of Hamburg based tugowners Bugsier Reederei und Bergungs-Gesellschaft. On taking delivery of the tractor tug Bugsier 7 in early June a director of Bugsier described Fassmer “as a truly amazing yard” and praised the high standard of workmanship.
Bugsier 7 is the first of a pair of identical tugs ordered by the tugowner in November 2012. Fassmer were given a mandate to develop, build and deliver two 32m ship handling tractors, required to replace older units in the Bugsier fleet. The design is similar to earlier Bugsier vessels of the same type but the hullform and propulsion system of the vessel have been optimised to meet current shiphandling demands. Delivery of the second tug Bugsier 8 is scheduled for late 2014.
Bugsier 7 and its sister-ship are designed for use in ports and coastal areas (RSA 200) and bears the class notation Germanischer Lloyd +100 A5 E1 RSA (200) “Tug” + GL + MC E1 AUT, and is operating under the German flag.
With an overall length of 31.50m a breadth of 11.30m, the vessel has a draft of 3.25m. The conventional tractor hull configuration incorporates a sizeable skeg aft and the widely spaced propulsion units in the fore-ship, with an adjacent protection plate/docking skeg. The hull is of all welded steel construction and the superstructure aluminium alloy. Integral tanks can accommodate 190 cu/m of fuel oil and 25 cu/m of fresh water.
The tug is equipped with two ABC 12DZC1000 main engines each developing 2249 kW, a total of approximately 6032 bhp. Each main engine is coupled to a robust Schottel SRP 4000 CP fully azimuthing propulsion unit incorporating controllable pitch propellers
On trials overseen by Germanischer Lloyd the vessel achieved a bollard pull of 72 tonnes and a free running speed of 13 knots.
A pair of Deutz BF6M1015MC diesel driven auxiliary generators supply electrical power for the vessels systems, backed up by a single Deutz BF4M1013M generator for harbour and emergency use.
Bugsier 7 tows from a Steen type 92 electrically powered towing winch, located aft and equipped with a single drum and horizontal warping head. An Oelkers & Eichler 75 tonne SWL quick release towhook is mounted adjacent to the winch for secondary/emergency use. The towline is deployed via a specially designed towing fairlead (staple configuration).
The tugs will normally operate in the port of Hamburg with a crew of three but accommodation is available onboard for up to six persons.
