Seahorse Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Irish Mainport has recently purchased the anchorhandling tug supply vessel Pearl from Seacor. She recently arrived at Cork ready to enter service with Marathon and Ramco at the Seven Heads gas field after undergoing modifications at Richards yard in Great Yarmouth. Pearl is 65m in length with a bollard pull of 70 tonnes and 6,100bhp.

The independent Dutch towage and salvage company Multraship has announced the appointment of experienced salvor Paul Glerum. Multraship director Leendert Muller said: ‘We are delighted that Paul has joined Multraship. With his vast experience and in-depth knowledge of salvage operations Paul’s appointment will help Multraship meet the growing demand for salvage services.’ Paul Glerum has over 25 years salvage experience and been involved with many high-profile salvage projects including the raising of the Russian submarine Kursk from the Barents Sea.

A unique triple screw multi-purpose work vessel is currently under construction for HvS Dredging Support BV of Harlingen. Named Zwerver II and due for delivery in May, the vessel is Damen Multicat 2611 to be powered by three Cummins KTA-19M3 engines producing 2300bhp. This interesting craft is being completed in the Damen workshops at Gorinchem and will be the subject of a more detailed description in Maritime Journal later in the year.

Szitzer-Wijsmuller is to rename the Voith tractor tug Forth. Now part of the Bristol Channel fleet, the 2190bhp tug will bear the name Butegarth. This traditional fleet name has become free with the recent sale of the Russian built twin-screw vessel Butegarth to Tallin where it will become part of the local fleet of icebreaking tugs.
