Bermuda unveils new low-emission ferries

The early, on-budget delivery follows a two-year process and global tender, culminating in a major vessel launch that aims to boost Bermuda’s public transport and cruise tourism capacity.

Future proofed

The catamaran ferry pair was designed by One2Three Naval Architects and tailored to meet both current and future operational needs, with a strong focus on reducing vessel emissions and enhancing passenger comfort.

Built for efficiency, accessibility and smooth operation, each vessel carries 550 passengers and incorporates designated wheelchair spaces.

The ferries are expected to cut CO₂ output by 25% on a passenger-mile basis compared with the island’s existing fleet, supporting national sustainability goals while lowering operational costs.

The Honourable Owen Darrell, Bermuda’s Minister of Tourism and Transport, Culture & Sport, praised the project, noting the vessels’ sleek design and modern feel.

“When they move across the harbour, they will look every bit as modern as they feel inside. These improvements support our environmental goals and create long-term savings for the taxpayer.”
