British Navy frigates get the ScaffFloat touch

ScaffFloat has lent its floating platform expertise to naval architects doing inclination tests on the two British Navy frigates at A&P Falmouth.

The two self-propelled 8m x 4m ScaffFloats provided safe floating access to the two British Type 23 Navy Frigates, Iron Duke and St Albans during the project.

“Maintaining a busy commercial port such as Falmouth with the variety of vessel types and operations takes a wide range of craft,” said Luke Wills from APCL A&P Falmouth.

“Our local supplier ScaffFloat offers a unique system that can be tailored to the variety of operations we need to support our port operations here.”

Stable foundation

ScaffFloat is a modular pontoon system made from custom floats and standard scaffolding, providing flexible platforms for civil engineering works.

APCL A&P Group Limited, Falmouth needed a stable platform with good access to the load waterline markings for the vessels.

The project included fitting a cantilever water level shelf to the bow to give easy access to accurately measure the draft marks.

In addition ScaffFloat’s foam bow fenders allowed the A&P skipper to gently push on with the engines to hold station, negating the need to run out lines.

Back in May, ScaffFloat developed an innovative floating pontoon system to enhance maintenance efficiency on a complex infrastructure project it was undertaking in Teeside, UK.

Working alongside Altrad for ConocoPhillips in Teesside, ScaffFloat developed the custom floating access platform to navigate the tight spaces around closely packed piles common in jetties and piers.
