Dredger christened as latest member of ABP fleet

UKD Seadragon is a Damen-built Shoalbuster 2711 and was christened in Wales with the traditional Champagne bottle smashing by godmother Rhian Lewis. who spoke about the vessel’s connection to maritime heritage. It is the first vessel to be registered in Cardiff in six years, says ABP.

The vessel has a special diesel-electric propulsion and power management system that ABP says optimises engine efficiency and reduces emissions.

Equipped with a fully electric E-DOP450 dredge pump, the vessel has a dredging capacity of 4,000m³ per hour and includes an A frame for added versatility.

“This dredger is the result of very close cooperation between both parties and represents the first of a new generation of efficient and innovation water injection dredgers,” said Joppe Neijens, Sales Manager Dredging, Damen Shipyards.

Seadragon is 233 tonnes in weight, with a length of 27 metres and a speed of 9.5 knots.

She is specified to provide multi purpose dredging support with WID, bed-levelling, buoy handling and survey capability.
