OCEA expands Philippines patrol fleet
French shipbuilder OCEA has signed a significant contract with the Philippines for the supply of 40 fast patrol boats along with integrated logistics support and maintenance services.
The deal for the 35m patrol boats of type FPB 110 MKII, is part of a broader intergovernmental agreement between France and the Philippines signed in 2024, reinforcing bilateral cooperation in maritime security and defence.
The new vessels will be delivered to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), which has previously received five ships from OCEA between 2017 and 2020, including the 84-metre offshore patrol vessel (OPV) Gabriela Silang.
OCEA, which established a Manila-based subsidiary in 2019 employing 20 Filipinos, has been providing full maintenance support to the existing fleet. The PCG recently renewed its trust in OCEA with a five-year extension for the maintenance of its four FPB 72 (24-metre) patrol boats and the Gabriela Silang.
This latest contract showcases French industrial competitiveness abroad and follows a deal in 2018 – 2019 for the delivery of four FPB 72s and the world’s largest aluminium OPV (83.6 metres) to the PCG.
The deal was backed by five-year in-service support contracts which include preventive and corrective maintenance, dry-docking and operational support.
