Partnership looks to strengthen autonomy

Two firms have formed a partnership that will see greater autonomy and security on uncrewed surface vessels.

Defence technology innovator BlueHalo and maritime tech firm Kraken Technology Group plan to integrate BlueHalo’s autonomous systems into Kraken’s littoral security platforms.

This collaboration aims to develop advanced uncrewed surface vehicles (USV) and uncrewed surface/sub-surface vehicles (USSV) with multi-domain capabilities.

The partnership will see BlueHalo’s autonomous innovations embedded within Kraken’s vessels, such as the K3 SCOUT USV, K4 MANTA USSV, and K5 KRAKEN Gunship. These integrations are expected to advance maritime autonomy and address critical national security priorities.

BlueHalo will also incorporate its Titan and SkyView RF-based counter-uncrewed aircraft system (C-UAS) technologies into Kraken’s portfolio, improving maritime UAS detection and defence capabilities.

“This expansion into the maritime domain is one of several initiatives we have been planning as part of our long-term strategic vision,” said Jonathan Moneymaker, BlueHalo Chief Executive Officer. “The ability to rapidly and seamlessly adapt current leading technologies to adjacent domains allows us to out-innovate adversaries and extend BlueHalo’s ring of protection.

“Kraken’s innovative spirit and passion for customer success align directly with our DNA and we are excited to be bringing these disruptive offerings to the mission.”

The BlueHalo AI/ML-backed autonomous platform will be central to Kraken’s USV and USSV operations, maintaining situational awareness, directing autonomous maritime controllers, enabling multi-vessel swarming, and supporting hybrid maritime and land operations.

Kraken’s track record includes rapidly developing scalable littoral platforms like the K3 SCOUT, a low-cost, high-performance USV for commercial and military use; the K4 MANTA, a scalable platform capable of covert operations; and the K5 KRAKEN, a high-performance gunship designed for precision engagement in defence of littoral and afloat assets.
