Scantrol supplies control system for ROV
Scantrol has supplied the control systems for Hydramec’s umbilical management systems on board Fugro’s remotely operated underwater vessel (ROV).
Fugro Blue Volta ROV is integrated and deployed from an unmanned surface vessel (USV) to carry out remote inspection for offshore projects. The vessel uses Scantrol’s mTrack control system to make sure that the winch from Hydramec is safely operated.
“It is very inspiring to see the end-result of our work on these vessels, especially when we know that our customers are leading the way with technology that contributes to more sustainable operations,” commented Rolf Hjelmeland, vice president for Scantrol’s AHC and USVs.
Contractors are keen to reduce their environmental impact and moving to unmanned operations helps achieve this by reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Unmanned craft also have the benefit of reducing personnel costs and keeping health and safety risks to a minimum.
With more than 20 orders for USV systems including for Europe’s first offshore oil inspections using USV and ROV, Scantrol remains focused on this area.
“Our next delivery to Hydramec and Fugro will have an even bigger scope and a new HMI developed together with the operators,” concluded Hjelmeland.
