Two Macduff designs delivered to Canada

Built at the Cheoy Lee Shipyard in China and designed to fit within its existing range of standard workboats and tugs, the vessels are truly multi-national, with their design roots in Scotland.

“The design brief was for a small workboat with capacity for simple modification so that it could be tailored to specific owner requirements,” says Macduff. 

“The design for the first vessels is kept simple, allowing for them to complete multiple roles as a general workboat or line-handling vessel within many industries.”

The conventional layout with forward wheelhouse and large open deck is complemented with the fitting of a tow post and 10 T SWL tow hook, and the design allows for future vessels to be varied – such as potential for an additional focsle deck, which would give higher forward freeboard and improved below-deck accommodation.

There is also an option to lengthen the vessel mid-ships, and add winches or a crane.

The 14m LOA vessels are built with twin propellers supported by Kort propulsion, driven by Caterpillar C9.3 engines.

On trials, Macduff says the vessels achieved 10t bollard pull and a speed of 10.2 knots.
