Vard converts PSV into a specialised cable-laying vessel

The transformation of the IT Infinity was completed for IT International Telecom Marine SRL (IT) to meet the growing demand for subsea telecommunications infrastructure.

Built originally in 2008 as the “Volstad Princess”, the vessel underwent an extensive retrofit process at Vard Brattvaag, Norway and was delivered to IT in 2024.

Key upgrades

The conversion process included extensive structural modifications, such as the addition of accommodations for 32 crew members and approximately 550 tonnes of steel. 

Key upgrades included the installation of advanced cable-laying equipment, including a 60-tonne A-frame, a 20-tonne Linear Cable Engine, and a cable plough system.

Additionally, the vessel’s electrical systems were enhanced by Vard Electro, ensuring efficient operations.

The final conversion also incorporated a fully operational DP2 Class positioning system, optimising the vessel’s capabilities for cable laying in challenging subsea environments.

The project marks a key milestone in IT’s efforts to expand its fleet for the growing demand for marine power solutions.
