Call for EMD participants with eco passion
In parallel with the 2020 European Maritime Day (EMD) Conference, a series of local EMD events, will take place all over Europe for the public at large.
For the 2020 ‘EMD In My Country’ events, the focus will be on youth activities. Young ocean activists and youth organisations working for the promotion of sustainable oceans are encouraged to apply. The initiative will take place from April to June, while the EMD conference, organised by the European Commission, will take place in Cork, Ireland on 14 & 15 May.
Ocean awareness and activism has been rising steadily in recent years. During 2019, 145 events were organised in 23 different countries, attracting 25.000 participants and making a record in EMD history.
Activities included beach-cleaning; guided tours of ports; workshops, conferences, seminars and exhibitions on maritime themes; eco-tours and walks in areas with significant maritime heritage (cultural, environmental); excursions by boat; and visits to maritime museums or former ships, shipyards and port facilities etc.
The deadline for applications is 31 January.
Many organisers of EMD In My Country will also be able to use their event to demonstrate the European Atlas of the Seas. This interactive tool offers lots of interesting maps and other information about our seas and ocean.
