Oil Cuts Costs for Fast Ferry Fleet
Castrol Marine have successfully relaunched the semi-synthetic 10W40 multigrade oil previously known as Dynamax under its new name, Enduron, with Italian fast ferry and hydrofoil operator SNAV.
The UK based lubricant technology specialists worked closely with SNAV to implement a changeover from a previous supplier’s mineral monograde oil to Castrol Enduron, which is designed for high speed turbocharged marine diesel engines requiring protection through extended drain intervals. Naples based SNAV operates a fleet of 25 ferries and hydrofoils. It expects to save approximately 20% per year in operational costs over the next three years as a result of the switch to Enduron.
Actual savings will be in excess of 20% per vessel per year in lubricants, filters, disposal and labour. Extended oil drain intervals and an extension of oil filter cartridge life from 250 hours to 1,500 hours is of particular significance to SNAV and many other Mediterranean fleet operators facing high oil disposal costs and ever increasing environmental demands.
