Farra Marine is helping protect the environment by fitting Wavestream bilge water filter systems on its first service vessel.

Farra Orla is a 27m catamaran designed by Incat Crowther and built by Penguin Shipyard in Singapore. The vessel is the third in Penguin’s Windflex 27 series and is designed specifically for offshore wind farm support roles with excellent speed, deadweight and seakeeping qualities.  Farra Marine specified the Wavestream bilge water filter system to ensure that no traces of oily waste water are emitted whilst undertaking crew transfer and wind farm support operations in the Irish sea, North sea and Baltic.

Martin Rice CEO at Farra Marine says, “As a company we have a heavy focus on environment, social and corporate governance and part of this is obviously the protection of the marine environment.  We are very aware of the drive for cleaner energy and the global energy transition away from fossil fuels to more greener power resources.  Offshore wind is one of these but we must remember to protect our seas in the process.”

Approved by Lloyds Register of Shipping the Wavestream systems ensure that no traces of oil or other pollutants such as microplastics are discharged overboard.

There are several stainless steel Wavestream models for applications to meet customers’ needs such as with Farra Marine.

The Wavestream filter technology removes all trace of pollutants which bonded within the filter cartridge.

Farra Orla is the company’s first Irish flagged CTV and the company aims to have a fleet of 12 by the end of 2024.  Compliant with Bureau Veritas and meeting the European regulations for the transfer of up to 24 offshore workers, the vessel is powered by quad Scania engines, each producing 662kW, with propulsion via quad Hamilton 521 waterjets, giving an operating speed in excess of 29 knots.

Paul Gullett, managing director of Wave International says, “We’re delighted that Farra Marine specified Wavestream for its new CTV vessel, actively protecting the marine environment with a compact and reliable oily water filtration system.”

In addition to CTV and wind farm operational support vessels, many cruise ships, superyachts, military and navy vessels, commercial ships and workboats choose to protect the marine environment by using Wavestream oily water separators. Available worldwide, replacement Wavestream filters can be obtained internationally through Wave’s network of distributors.
