Powerful recovery for devastated boatbuilder

This contract for 15 patrol boats demonstrates that despite the huge blow of Fabio’s accidental death in a powerboat world record attempt, the company is fully functioning with the new management team operating and offering a wide range of proven designs.

FB Design is now a market leader in the production of high performance boats for both para-military and leisure purposes. In addition to this new contract, the company is building a series of fast patrol boats for the Italian Guardia di Finanza and also has a contract with Sunseeker that will see FB Design building the hulls and superstructures of the Sunseeker Hawk 38, their high performance sports boat.

For the Greek contract FB Design is using the FB 56 SF which is the latest boat designed for the company. This design is based on the extremely successful FB 52 SF and it incorporates many of the technological advancements developed for the FB 60 SF with both of these designs in operation with the Guardia di Finanza. The new design is claimed to be a testament to the memory of Fabio Buzzi but also to demonstrate how the technical team at FB Design has been developed to meet new challenges and with 30 years of experience has become one of the most advanced shipyards in the world building composite offshore vessels.

The FB 56 SF has a top speed of over 50 knots powered by a pair of 1100hp Scania diesels coupled to the FB Design developed Trimax Surface Drives via ZF gearboxes. The hull incorporates the Structural Foam system developed by FB Design that makes the boat unsinkable and is fitted with the triple trim tab systems to ensure quick and easy planing.

The focus of the design is on dealing with casualties with two systems of casualty recovery from the water installed. The craft will be fitted with an advanced thermal imaging system in addition to a wide range of electronic communications and navigation systems.

The first delivery under this contract is scheduled for delivery in 10 months time with the full contract to be completed by the end of 2023.
