Practical AIS
Euronav Ltd have launched an AIS module for their seaPro ECS software that can be run on any PC or laptop. When connected to any AIS transponder via the ECDIS or pilot port, seaPro will visualise target data over electronic charts to give an at a glance situational awareness. Euronav are also planning a low-cost AIS receiver for craft without transponders whose operators wish to see AIS equipped vessels.
Winning the Institution of Civil Engineers Award for Best Civil Engineering Student of 2003 was Oliver Latham of Plymouth University for his study of wave impact forces on steep fronted coastal structures.
