Solar roof for Turkish shipyard
Turkey’s Tersan Shipyard has installed a solar roof system with a 3.8MW power capacity generating more than 4.900.000kWh of energy per year. This provides for 30% of the company’s total energy usage. The installation took nearly a month, starting in September with completion in October.
Tersan was already using 100% renewable energy generated from IREC certificated (International Renewable Energy Certificate) wind farms.
With the new solar energy system Tersan says it has taken bold climate action and aligned its energy procurement strategies with the sustainability goals set forth by initiatives.
Tersan is one of Turkey’s largest new building shipbuilders employing almost 5,000 people in two shipyards, in Istanbul and in Yalova and with a track record of building more than 80 ships. The company specialises in building technologically advanced offshore, fishing and other types of vessels for international customers, mostly from Northern Europe. Tersan is a diversified shipbuilder which has gained considerable experience in building LNG and battery powered vessels. The company claims to have led Turkish exports in the new shipbuilding sector for six consecutive years.
