The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, in partnership with the North East Combined Authority, has announced a £2.1 million investment in a new UK offshore wind cable testing rig at its facilities in Blyth.

The facility, funded by the North East Combined Authority, will provide a high voltage electrical test environment for pre-qualification testing of offshore wind cable systems.

The new testing rig will apply extreme voltages and currents to cables, simulating stresses beyond operational levels in real-world conditions.
