Built in 1969 as the French tug Subtil, the 18 ton bollard pull vessel had been operating in the UK since 1991. Egerton sailed from Chatham in May to join the fleet of the TP Towage Company Ltd in Gibraltar where it joins a former French running mate – Sun Swale.
James Butcher & Sons of Portsmouth have ordered a new Damen Stan Tug 1605. The new vessel will be very similar to the Guy James built by for the company by Damen in 1995 but will have more powerful machinery and a number of minor modifications. Two Caterpillar 3408 (E) main engines will provide a total of 1101bhp, giving the tug more power to handle the increasing number of larger refrigerated cargo vessels handled in Portsmouth commercial docks.
Sleepdienst B. Iskes and Son of Ijmuiden have re-engined the former British tractor tug Arion (ex; Flying Kestrel). Two new ABC 6AZ diesels have been installed, rated at 1300bhp each at 900rev/minute, to give the Schottle tractor a bollard pull of 40 tonnes.
On 15 May Florida based Titan Maritime LLC appointed Mauricio Garrido as their latest Vice President. He will report to Richard Fairbanks, President of Titan and as a member of the Titan Management Team will help develop the company’s rapid expansion plans by supporting its global salvage response mission.
Garrido, former Vice-President of Operations at Resolve Marine Group, brings 17 years of solid experience in the marine casualty response industry. During the last inie years, he has been directly responsible for the management and coordination of more than 50 major salvage operations throughout the Americas.
