Suzuki returned to Seawork this year to UK debut the latest outboard in its range the DF325A.
Suzuki’s latest outboard is designed to balance power and thrust, with fuel-efficiency and reliability in a lightweight design.
The DF325A runs on low-octane 91 RON fuel and is designed to be robust, easy to use and versatile, making it suitable for larger boats.
“The latest high-spec, high-output outboards all require high-octane fuel,” said Yasuharu Osawa, executive general manager, global marine and power products operation, Suzuki Motor Corporation. “As far as we know, there is no other outboard over 300hp that runs on RON 91, which is regular fuel in some key markets.
Rotational energy
The outboard shares the same technologies as the recently launched DF350A. While traditional single propeller design creates forward thrust, it also produces rotational energy.
Suzuki’s engineers have captured the wasted energy and turned it into productive power by using dual-propeller technology.
A contra-rotating propeller design provides grip underwater and helps achieve a smaller, more hydrodynamic gear case by distributing the engine’s torque evenly over two propellers.
Acceleration
Torque per propeller is in turn decreased, enabling the gear diameter to be reduced.
A three-blade/three-blade propeller set up has been developed to provide acceleration and high performance.
Suzuki’s dual injector system uses two smaller injectors for greater precision, improved atomisation and increased fuel efficiency.
The outboard has a compression ratio of 10.5:1 and uses a direct intake system and dual louver system for cool and dry air.
