The UK Secretary of State for Defence has visited Barrus to meet with senior management and engineers from the company’s special products division and tour the company’s production and engine test facilities.
Accompanying the Rt Hon Gavin Williamson CBE MP was Victoria Prentis, the Conservative MP for Banbury and North Oxfordshire. The MPs met the special products division, which works with specialist organisations on projects for the MoD, the RNLI, the professional rescue services, and other government and commercial organisations.
“We were delighted to host the visit of the Secretary of State for Defence and to be able to demonstrate our capabilities as the leading custom-engine builder and how we play our part in supporting the MoD and other vital specialist organisations,” commented Robert Glen, chairman of Barrus.
Latest developments
After a presentation, there was a tour of Barrus’s production and engine test facilities, which included Mariner and Mercury outboard engine developments, and Yanmar and John Deere inboard engine applications.
Mr Williamson viewed the latest Mariner mine hunting outboard engine, the latest four-stroke Post Immersion Restart engine (PIRS) and the Mariner 50hp outboard engine, capable of running on four fuels and developed to satisfy the MoD’s single-fuel policy.
An inspection also took place of the Yanmar diesel inboard engines being built for Atlas Elektronik UK (AEUK), that will power the next-generation Royal Navy workboats. In addition to new engine developments, Barrus also demonstrated its expertise in engine rebuild and repair for the MoD.
Barrus will be exhibiting at Seawork on Q18, plus VA12, VA14, VA15 and VA16.
